Introduction of Niobium:

 

Niobium is a rare refractory metal. Its color is steel-grey and it has the excellent characteristic for big specific gravity,high intensity, fatigue resistance,corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, superconductivity etc. Niobium and tantalum belong to the same group of the periodic table, they have almost identical chemical properties and symbiose in the niobate and tantalate mineral.

 

Niobium has a number of important uses for its excellent properties like good corrosion resistance, good cold-workability and good film oxide electric properties, etc. So niobium has the ability of grain refining in steel, it is widely applied to steel industry, electronic industry, spaceflight and aviation, atomic energy, ocean exploitation etc. and is used as alloy steel additive, superconductor material, high-temperature alloy, single crystal oxide, ceramic capacitor etc.

 

Applications of Niobium:

 

Niobium for Superconductors

 

Niobium-tantalum alloy is the most popular resource for superconductors. And it is also the largest-applied material.  Such as Niobium 47 tantalum，is significantly used in high-energy physics. It’s a preferred practical material for large-scale Hadron Collider、Heavy Ion Collider and other High-energy particle accelerators；

 

Niobium for Atomic Energy Industry

 

The neutron capture cross-section of Niobium is small, the thermal conductivity and the intensity are high. So it is used as nuclear fuel Pack material, nuclear fuel additive alloy and heat exchangers structural material in the atomic energy reactors.
