1.0% lanthanated tungsten electrodes (AWS classification EWLa), which contain a minimum of 97.80% tungsten, 0.80 to 1.20% lanthanum and 0.5% other, has been the most popular alternative to 2% thoriated tungsten electrode for most industry in American ,Europen countries and Japan.La2O3 has the lowest work function of any electrode. Hundreds of Thousands experiments told us that 1½% lanthanated tungsten electrodes have much longer life than 2% thoriated tungsten electrodes if not overloaded and better arc starting.
